England and Wales Placed in the Same Group for RWC 2027 in Australia

Rugby World Cup 2027 draw ceremony
The group draw was overseen by rugby legends including former All Black Dan Carter.

The English side together with Wales will face off in the same group for the 2027 Rugby World Cup, setting up a major early clash in Australia. Completing the group in Pool F by the Tongan Ikale Tahi and the Zimbabwean Sables.

This draw echoes their infamous clash in the pool stages of the 2015 World Cup, where Wales' victory at Twickenham contributed to the English team's shock early exit.

Other Notable Group Draws

Ireland alongside the Scots have likewise been drawn in a pool once again, replicating the scenario from the 2023 edition. On that occasion, they secured a convincing win, with their opponents unable to advance to the quarter-finals.

Los Teros and Os Lobos, both made a strong impression as surprise packages in the last World Cup, complete that Pool D.

Significantly, the victors of these two groups are kept apart from holders and top-ranked South Africa until the final, assuming the South Africans top their own group.

Tournament Ramifications

Should the groups conclude in line with the current world rankings, further leading contenders like the All Blacks and France would remain separated from the likes of the English and the Irish until the championship decider.

In that scenario, Los Pumas would be the remaining top-ranked nation on the same half of the elimination bracket as England and Ireland.

Tournament Hosts Face Blockbuster Opener

Hosts Australia find themselves alongside their great rivals and three-time winners New Zealand in Pool A.

The Wallabies will kick off the World Cup in the city of Perth on October 1st, 2027 in a blockbuster match aimed at launch the event.

Elsewhere, reigning champions South Africa have been paired with Italy, the Lelos and the Oaks. The French team are grouped with Japan, future hosts the USA and Samoa.

Larger Tournament for 2027

Los Pumas will face Fiji, Spain and the Canadian team as the World Cup expands to twenty-four nations from the twenty who competed in France.

This edition will introduce a last-16 stage for the very first time in Rugby World Cup history.

Although the winner of England and Wales's group may avoid some of the rugby's biggest beasts initially, they will meet the second-placed team from Group B – most likely the Italians – in the first knockout round.

A total of four of the remaining six group winners will face a third-placed side from the initial group phase.
